History of Palm Coast, Florida

Palm Coast was once a swamp that was covered in pine trees in 1969. Although the area was popular with fishermen and hunters, it was virtually uninhabited. The ITT corporation saw the potential for a vibrant community in this area. The corporation purchased the land and sold large tracts to interested buyers. ITT then built the infrastructure and advocated for a water management plan to address the swamp problem.

The grand opening of Palm Coast development was held in 1970 with the construction of their welcome center, the first public building on the site. There were many homes built quickly and people began to live there by 1972.
